Biography
Sharon K. Hull, M.D., M.P.H., is Professor, Family and Community Medicine. She served as Chair, Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, at Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM), in Rootstown, Ohio, as Director of Community-Based Health Services Research for the Austen Bioinnovation Institute in Akron., and most recently as Medical Director of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Collaborative, a joint initiative between Summa Health System and NEOMED.
Dr. Hull holds a baccalaureate degree from the University of Evansville (Indiana) and is an alumna of Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine. Upon completion of a family medicine residency at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana, she opened a solo family practice in Marion, Illinois and subsequently served as Chief of Women’s Health at the Student Health Services Clinic at SIU’s Carbondale campus. She returned to SIU School of Medicine as assistant dean of student affairs in 1996 and later served there as Interim Chair of the Department of Medical Humanities. In 2003, she was awarded a competitive Primary Care Research Fellowship at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2003-2005. While at UNC, she also completed a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration and a Preventive Medicine Residency.
Dr. Hull holds dual board certification in both Family Medicine and in General Public Health/Preventive Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine. She is the immediate Past President of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research, , and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. She has served as an officer and on the Boards of Directors for both the Illinois Rural Health Association and the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians. She was named a Distinguished Alumna of SIU School of Medicine in 2002, and was awarded the John Atkinson Ferrell Distinguished Preventive Medicine Resident Award from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2005.
