Biography
Neil Casey started his public health career as a Research Analyst with the Missouri Department of Health in the early 1970’s. After a brief three year turn at analyzing transportation statistics in Iowa, he returned to the public health arena in late 1979 as Biostatistician and Director of Health Data Management for the Akron City Health Department, where he conducted numerous studies on the general health of residents of Akron. These studies included analyzing data from birth and death records as well as utilizing census and survey data to aid in the development of a health profile for the city. Also, as the opportunities arose, discussions were held with MD’s and DO’s on the proper completion of birth and death records in accordance with rules and regulations set down by the National Center for Health Statistics. Over the years, Neil served on many committees that dealt primarily with collection and analysis issues of public health data at both at the county and state levels as well as presented research papers at state and national public health conferences and published numerous articles in public health related periodicals. He retired from the City of Akron spring, 2006 but has kept abreast of latest public health informatics developments through readings and the Internet. Neil has now come out of retirement to become the data coordinator for a federally funded cancer research project at Case Western Reserve University.
