Biography
Margaret Sanders, M.A., L.S.W., Associate Director, Office of Geriatrics and Office of Palliative Care and Instructor of Gerontology at Northeast Ohio Medical University has developed curricula, protocols and presentations about issues facing elders locally and nationally. She is the lead author of a children’s book Insights of Children: Elder Abuse Prevention, developed to raise awareness and sensitivity in middle school age students to the pervasive problem of elder abuse and to enhance the student’s ability to identify, report and help prevent elder mistreatment.
Ms. Sanders also has vast experience in palliative care education. As project coordinator and contributing author of the HRSA funded Comprehensive Assessment of Education and Training in Geriatric Palliative, she completed a thorough examination of education offered in medical, nursing, and social programs across the nation. Her clinical experience includes positions as Director of Social Service in a retirement community where her responsibilities included working with patients and families who were experiencing end of life. Spirituality during end of life care is a strong interest of hers. She is an active member of the Palette of Faith Coalition, a partnership of local health professional and faith community leaders who share ideas and educational offerings to better serve individuals and families facing serious illness, care-giving, end of life and grief. Ms. Sanders is also involved in the Sacred Art of Living and Dying program.
