Biography

Dr. Bourguet began her career in epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health working on the Sterling County Study of Psychiatric Epidemiology with Alex Leighton, MD. She completed her doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina, where she was involved in the Occupational Health Studies Group which conducted studies of cancer and respiratory disease among unionized employees of the tire and rubber industry located primarily in Akron, Ohio. This was followed by a post doctoral fellowship at Duke University Medical School. Her work with the tire and rubber industry led her to employment at NEOUCOM in 1986. Over the course of her research career, Dr. Bourguet has conducted research on skin cancer, multiple myeloma, pediatric injuries, reproductive outcomes, and physician behavior. In the past 5 years, she has focused on sleep disorders, specifically restless legs syndrome and the relationship of sleep disorders to obesity. In addition to teaching responsibilities at the College of Medicine and the Master of Public Health program, she has served as a consultant to local industry and to local health departments and the Ohio Department of Health. Dr. Bourguet retired from full time employment at NEOMED in 2011, She currently codirects the research track of the FAME fellowship program and serves as faculty for MPH Capstone students. In her spare time, Dr. Bourguet serves as a park ambassador for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
